Burt B Budlong

Budlong, Capt. Burt B. (Retired, US Airways) of Windber and Indian Lake. Died Dec. 23, 2010 at The Church of the Brethren Home, Windber. Born Feb. 2, 1921 in Chicago, Ill. Son of the late Herbert J. and Marie (Von Fuerstenberg) Budlong. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dale H. Budlong, and his son, William H. Budlong.  Survived by loving wife of 55 years, the former Jean Kennedy; daughter, Dale E. Mulrenan of Overland Park, Kan., and son, John K. of Tulsa, Okla., and grandson, Ryan T. Mulrenan of Overland Park, Kan. Brother-in-law of Ruth B. Budlong of Newport Beach, Calif., and uncle of Laura E. Budlong of Hong Kong. Graduate of Upsala College, East Orange, N.J., attaining a bachelor’s degree in Economics with honors. Also studied law through LaSalle College, Chicago.  He began his flying career in 1940, ending up in Macon, Ga., and Americus, Ga., where he became a Civilian Primary Flight Instructor. He was a navigator and co-pilot for TWA and later flew for Alaska Airlines as a co-pilot. Burt joined All American Airways as a captain. All American Airways later became US Air. While waiting to change planes at National Airport, Washington, D.C., he met his wife to be, Jean. Burt was a pilot with US Air for 33 years. Some of his happiest days were spent at Indian Lake, where he enjoyed golf, water skiing and wind surfing. He also enjoyed winter sports. The family would like to thank the staff of The Church of the Brethren Home and Windber Hospice for all their compassionate care to Burt. Friends received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. time of funeral service Tuesday, Dec. 28, at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland. Rev. Ronald St. Clair, officiating.
