Beverly Ann Iachini

IACHINI- Beverly Ann, (DeSantes),  87, of Johnstown, passed away peacefully following a brief illness on June 30, 2023.  The eldest child born to the late Dr. Nello and Leona (Short) DeSantes on April 1, 1936, in Gallitzin, PA, Beverly is survived by her brother, Nello DeSantes, Jr. (Pittsburgh), daughters Debra Iachini- Lux (Robert), Dana Fabina (Dennis), Michele Dellapenta (Lou), and Jodi Severson (Chris);  grandchildren, Jamie (Dr. Robert) Dombrowski, Erica (Vincent) Kolesar, Carrie Albers, David (Keri) Hoffman, Hanna Rapsky (Sam), Danielle (Jay) Naik, Hunter Severson, Deni Marie Fabina (Joe), Spencer Severson; great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Daniel, Owen, and Amelia; cousin Jean Mechuta and extended family and friends. She is preceded in death her son, Robert J. (Margaret) Iachini (2011), and infant granddaughter Hayley Margaret Rapsky (1991). A 1954 graduate of Gallitzin High School, where she played drums in the marching band. When she was not caring for her family, Bev cleaned homes, church rectories, and provided care for her elderly friends. An avid baker and cook, whose coffee pot was always full, no one ever left Bev’s home hungry.  Her spaghetti and meatballs were legendary, as were the variety of Italian cookies, pizzelles, and homemade breads that filled her freezers.  Nicknamed “Gay Gay” by grandchildren unable to pronounce Grandma, Bev embodied the moniker that Webster defines as “keenly alive, spirited and energetic” so much that the name stuck. Known for her impeccable style and color-coordinated outfits, Bev took pride in her immaculate home that was beautifully decorated for every holiday.   She was happiest when her kitchen was full of company, laughing over coffee and sharing stories, while children raided her ice cream and popsicle stash.  Whether it was a garage party for 100 or a quiet chat with one person, Bev’s specific brand of neighborliness, compassion, and generosity was felt by every life she touched.  Her devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and his Blessed Mother provided her comfort and strength in difficult times.  She shared that faith freely with others in need, through her silent prayers, the dozens of rosaries said in tribute daily, or a quick shout-out to St. Anthony whenever anything went missing. Bev’s faith and devotion never wavered and were the strongest at the end when she told us with a smile, “Jesus has my hand, I am not afraid.“ One of Mom’s many mantras was, “Trust in the Lord and count your Blessings.”  All who knew and loved Beverly, were truly Blessed.  She will remain forever in our hearts. “Toodaloo for now!” Visitation 2-8 pm Tuesday July 11, 2023 at Harris Funeral Home, Cherry Lane, Richland, where Vigil Service will be held. Funeral Mass will be  at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Geistown on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at 10 am. Committal St. Joseph Cemetery.
