Betty J. "Betsy" Bender

Bender – Betty J., “Betsy”, 88, Stonycreek Township, went to be with the Lord on July 2, 2021 at Windber Woods. Born on August 27, 1932 in Heilwood, PA, daughter of Nicholas Sr. and Tressa (Fadok) Mekulsia. Preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Alexander Sylvester; brothers, Michael, John, Nicholas Jr., Peter, Joseph, and George; sisters, Mary, Sophie, Sue, and Ann. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Edward; children, Edward M. Sr. (Linda) York, PA, Pamela (Marc) Sylvester, Charlotte, NC, and Lynn (Paul) Galloway, Frederick, MD; grandchildren, Kiley, Edward Jr., Nicholas, Samuel, and Margaret; siblings, Frank (Donna) Mekulsia, and Julia Pudlosky, all of NJ, and several nieces and nephews. Betsy was a 1950 graduate of Heilwood High School. She was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, and a former member of the Resurrection and Senior Choir. Betsy enjoyed playing in card clubs, BINGO, and was a former golfer at Windber Country Club. She loved her family dearly, and especially loved annual family vacations at the beach. Friends will be received from 3-7 p.m. on Thursday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, where Vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Fr. David S. Peles, Pastor. Committal will be at Richland Mausoleum. A loving friend and a great devoted parishioner of St Benedict Church. Always there to help with the Knights of Columbus activities especially cutting cakes and selling gobs. Always there if needed, especially in Senior choir and Resurrection choir. You will truly be missed by all. Rest In Peace Betsy. Denny and Dollie Gisler
