Alice Jeannine Sprowl "Jean"

Sprowl - Alice Jeannine “Jean”, Richland Township, most recently of Arbutus Park Manor, was called home to be with the Lord on July 21, 2020. She was born in the family home in Six Mile Run, PA, on December 14, 1928, daughter of the late George and Verda (Wiser) Skipper. On April 14, 1951, in Lakemont, PA, she married Donald Frank Sprowl, who passed away May 6, 2005. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her two sisters, Ina Musser and Marylou Thomas. Survivors are a daughter, Valerie Sprowl (Scott) Taylor, Stephens City, VA; son, D. Barry Sprowl, married to the former, Lisa (Walker), Johnstown, PA; sister, Doris K. Fox, Grand Island, NY; grandchildren, Christopher, Michael, and Haylee Sprowl, Carolyn Taylor Derflinger, and Allison Taylor, and several loving nieces and nephews. Jean was a 1946 graduate of Saxton-Liberty High School in Bedford County. She worked as an assistant in the medical offices of Doctor Isenberg in Saxton for several years before marriage. Upon moving to Johnstown with her husband and young family in the early 1960’s, she opened a small fabric shop, known as Sprowl’s Fabric Shop, in the garage of her Richland Township home. During the 30 years she was in business, the shop expanded several times in order to best serve the many wonderful customers she came to know as friends. She was a dedicated wife and mother, always putting her family’s needs above her own. She was a faithful member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Richland Township for many years, where she enjoyed singing in the choir. Her hobbies included sewing, ceramics, playing the piano, and doing crossword puzzles and word searches. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, funeral services will not be held at this time. A memorial service will be planned at a later date. Inurnment will be at Richland Cemetery.
