MEREDITH---Ronald G. “Mert,”, 83, East Taylor, passed away on October 17, 2020, in Johnstown. Born June 2, 1937, in Conemaugh, son of Charles and Viola (Horner) Meredith. Preceded in death by parents, Charles “Chuck,” Wilbur “Webb,” Jack and sister, Betty Grove. Survived by wife of 54 years, former Shirley Piker; children, Shawn and wife Corrie, New Castle; and Kristie Gunsallus and husband, Andrew, Johnstown; and grandchildren, Ava and Addison Meredith; also survived by sisters-in-law, Shirley (Faust) Meredith and Irene (Stanislawczyk) Piker; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mert was the last surviving member of his immediate family. 1955 graduate of East Conemaugh High School. US Veteran of the Army National Guard, 876th Engineer Battalion. Worked at Bethlehem Steel for 35 years. His favorite things to do were hunting and fishing. He enjoyed AAABA games and attending other baseball games. He took great pride in his vegetable garden. Mert loved watching the Steelers on television. He was a social member of Conemaugh PNA, Conemaugh Fire Club and Conemaugh Eagles. Life member of the Grace Brethren Church, Conemaugh. At Mert’s request, there will be no funeral service or visitation. Burial at Headricks Union Cemetery will be private.
