“Marge”, 100, of Geistown, passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 20, 2021. Born December 24, 1920 in Johnstown to August and Irene (Skipper) Suhay. Preceded in death by her parents, husband, Joseph A. Pettina, and siblings, Catherine Hess, Betty Trimmer, Richard Suhay, Leo Suhay and Eileen Stiffler. Survived by her loving daughter, Sandra (Bernard) Istvan, Richland; son, Albert (Vickie) Pettina, Philipsburg; grandchildren, Jeffrey Istvan, Philadelphia, David Istvan, Montville NJ, Kevin Istvan, Tampa FL, Stephanie Hodge, Encinitas CA, and Eric Pettina, Bellefonte, and great grandchildren, Joseph, Samuel, Jack, Benjamin, Jenna, Owen, Sophia, Nora and Olivia. Coming of age during the Great Depression, Marge was pressed into duty working on the railroad during World War II. She worked for Sears for more than 30 years, retiring from the hardware department in 1985. Known far and wide for her delicious cookies and Sunday dinners. Marge was a dedicated wife and mother, and a doting and generous grandmother whose door was always open. No one ever left her house empty handed. Marge’s quick wit made her an admired friend and neighbor. She was a longtime member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, Geistown, and an avid bingo player. At Marge’s request, there will be no public viewing. A private Funeral Mass will be held at the convenience of the family at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Fr. David S. Peles, Pastor. Committal will be at Richland Cemetery. The family suggests contributions be directed to St. Vincent de Paul Society, 301 Central Ave, Johnstown PA 15902 or to the Humane Society of Cambria County, 743 Galleria Dr Ext, Johnstown, PA 15904 in memory of Margaret.
