Obituary

HAUSER----Frank, It is with great sadness that the family of Frank Hauser, 84, announces that he passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at his home in Johnstown, Pennsylvania.  Frank was born on September 5, 1936 in Altoona, Pennsylvania.  He was preceded in death by his parents and sister and his loving wife of 50 years, Mary E. (Partsch), who died in 2010.  Left to cherish his memory are his two sons, Frank “Sam”; Johnstown and Brian (Amy); New Jersey and his grandchildren, Samantha, Abby, Joey, and Jenna. Frank spent much of his youth in Grafton, West Virginia where he played on the state championship-winning football team.  He has been a native of Johnstown since 1953 where he began his career as an Automatic Transmission Mechanic for Hallman Chevrolet.  During this time, he also enlisted to serve his country in the US Army National Guard where he served for nine years. One of his most memorable posts as a Guardsman was in Fort Knox, Kentucky where he trained and worked as a Wheel Vehicle Mechanic in the motor pool.  Frank spent 19 years working as a Millwright for Bethlehem Steel.  Upon retiring from Bethlehem Steel, he took a position at the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown as a Maintenance Supervisor for the Grounds and Motor Pool Department where he finished out his career. Frank had a long history of serving his community.  He served on the Geistown Borough Council as the Chairman of the Road Department for 28 years.  He also served on the Highland Park Board as well as the Richland Fire Department Board.  He was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church. There he served as a football coach and President and Athletic Director of the school’s Athletic Association.  Frank was an avid hunter and loved fishing and camping at Glendale State Park.  He enjoyed watching all sports, especially Pitt football, the Steelers, and Richland High School teams. He also enjoyed eating and socializing at his favorite restaurant, The Corner Coffee Shop. Family and Friends will be received from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 14, at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland.  Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am Monday at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Geistown, Fr. David S. Peles Pastor.  Committal will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Frank’s name to St. Benedict Catholic Church.
