Coco – Samuel M., 95, Richland, went to be with the Lord on August 31, 2019 at Richland Woods Assisted Living. Born on November 24, 1923 in Johnstown, son of Michael and Carmella (Maganello) Coco. Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Elizabeth “Betty” (Bocci) Coco; daughter, Joanne Geibig; granddaughter, Michelle Kasuba; great grandson, Mathew Christie; siblings, Carmel, Mary Laposata, Josephine Layland, and Sarah Canerella; son-in-law, Mike Kasuba. He is survived by his loving children, Cynthia A. Kasuba, Windber and Gerald Samuel (Doan) Coco, Richland; grandchildren, Dawn (Frederick) Ings, Windber, Tina (Rob) Dudinack, Windber, Scott (Wendy) Geibig, Windber, Kim (Matt) Amigh, CA, James (Jennifer) Geibig, Greensburg, PA, and Matt Geibig, Fort Washington, MD; 10 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and many friends. Sam was a 1942 graduate of Johnstown High School. He was a US Marine Veteran serving during WWII achieving the rank of Staff SGT. Sam was very proud of the fact of serving in both combat theaters. He was co-owner of Yankee Shoe Repair Factory Inc., where he was employed for 83 years. Sam was an active member and usher for many years at St. Benedict Catholic Church. He was also member of Menoher Post #155 V.F.W.; American Legion Post #849, and Knights of Columbus Council #8244. Sam was also a past board member of Windber Country Club, where he enjoyed golfing with his friends. His family would like to thank the staff at Richland Woods for their loving care of Sam for 6 years; also, to Interim Hospice for tending to Sam during his final days. Friends will be received from 3-7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, where Vigil Service will be held. Funeral Mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Fr. David S. Peles, Pastor. Committal will be at Richland Cemetery Mausoleum with military rites conducted by Menoher Post #155 VFW Ritual Team. The family suggests contributions be directed to St. Benedict Catholic Church, 2310 Bedford Street, Johnstown, PA 15904 in memory of Samuel.
